National "Do Not Call" Registry

The FTC has made rules making it illegal for telemarketers to call consumers if their telephone number has been registered with the national Do Not Call registry. The rules do not apply to political organizations, charities and telephone surveyors.

How do I register my telephone number?

Phone numbers can be registered at www.donotcall.gov. Telemarketers are required to check the registry every 3 months, so after 90 days, unsolicited calls should stop. Registration is free and your number stays registered for 5 years.
