Medical Issues for Gay Partners

Authorization for medical care and the right to be present during a hospital stay can become an issue when one gay partner is ill.

TIP: To avoid issues with medical facilities and healthcare providers, make sure your family doctor or the admitting physician is aware of the situation. In order to make health decisions for your partner, you must execute the proper legal documents. At a minimum, make certain you have each signed a Living Will and Power of Attorney addressing medical care. For more information, go online to www.aclu.org.
