State Trial Courts

A case involving a state's civil and criminal laws is tried in state courts. Many states have specialized courts that handle only criminal, civil or family law matters. However, in another state, the court may have the jurisdiction to handle any type of matter.

There are many different terms for state courts. For example, the court may be called a Municipal, County, District, Circuit or Superior Court.
