Salary Negotiations

How can I determine if the offer I am making (or have received) is competitive?

One of the best ways to check is to go to www.salary.com. This site lists hundreds of positions and gives a range for the position based on your geographic location.

CAUTION: Employers often base their salary offer on what the last salary the candidate was earning. In cases where this figure is significantly below what other employees are making, a potential discrimination claim may exist. In constructing an offer, look at both the internal and external market for the appropriate rate and verify that men, women and minorities are paid comparably.
