Lawn Care and General Upkeep

Most people take pride in keeping their property in top condition. But there always seems to be one house on your block that has a foot-high lawn, garbage strewn everywhere, peeling paint and other issues that make it an eyesore. What can be done in these situations?

My neighbor's lawn is growing out of control. What can I do?

Unless your neighbor's lawn presents a risk to the health or safety of the community, there is very little you can do in this instance except talk to your neighbor about the problem. Some towns and cities do have height restrictions for lawns; check your local ordinances for more information.

My neighbor's house needs a paint job and repairs. What are my options?

As a homeowner, there is very little you can do to make your neighbor paint his house or make other necessary repairs, unless the repairs needed violate local codes. On the other hand, if you live in a condominium or a planned community, you and your neighbor will have to adhere to rules and regulations established by the management boards of these organizations. Check your local ordinances or condo rules for more information.
